the uinta story

Located in Northeast Utah, the Uinta Basin stands as a remarkable lacustrine oil basin, noted for its yield of waxy crude oil at depths ranging from 4,500 to 13,500 feet. Known for its extensive in-place shale and conventional hydrocarbon resources, the Uinta Basin - alongside its neighboring Piceance and Greater Green River basins - is globally recognized. Since its consistent oil production debut in 1949, the area has witnessed a resurgence in output, bolstered by the evolution of horizontal drilling technology.

The crude derived from the Uinta Basin is distinguished by its light, sweet characteristics, bearing an API gravity range of 36-42°. With inherent properties rendering it an ideal feedstock for Group II+ and Group III base oils used in lubricants, Uinta crude also seamlessly feeds into Lubes/FCC units. This crude is also prized for its exceptionally low contaminant levels, displaying negligible traces of salt, diminished nitrogen and asphalt content, and a sulfur composition of less than 0.02%. Consequently, Uinta crude contributes to the production of fuels compliant with the most rigorous environmental standards.
